Friday Letter - 15th March 2024

Dear Parents,

We have had a super week at Benhall this week. The children continue to wow us every day with their commitment to their learning. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see Year 2 scientists in action earlier this week. The amount of sticky knowledge they have acquired over the term is truly jaw-dropping - well done year 2 team for providing such inspiring learning opportunities.

Our year 1's continue to be inspired by our author's visit last week, and they are showing their writing skills during their Write Stuff lessons this term. They are retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood and I can't wait to see how they twist the ending in their independent writing next week.

We have finished the week by supporting Comic Relief. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the charity today. The children and staff looked great in their red clothes .

Pre-School News

In Pre-School this week we started our theme of Spring part 1. We discussed in groups our understanding of what spring is and signs that spring is beginning. The children have been outside using the ipads to take photos of the signs of spring. They have been creative using different media and shapes to create daffodil pictures and the children with adult support are creating a large scale spring display with handprint flowers and bees, which is very pretty. The children collected different foliage from the garden to make a perfume tray, also some old flowers and they added colours and spices, once mixed up it gave off a quite an aroma! The children have had a role play flower shop and café, which they have been very busy in. On Friday we celebrated Red nose day, thank you for the donations. Our Little Wandle letter sound this week was ‘y,’ next week our theme is Easter. Please look on Tapestry for information about the gold/silver class photographs on Monday for those not in session. Year Group in Focus - Reception

Reception has had another busy yet fantastic week, full of enjoyment and excitement. The children have been learning all about the story of "Handa's Surprise", writing about what fruit they would put in their own basket and retelling the story using lots of animals and fruits. Following on from this, we thought about some of the animals in our gym session and practised being those animals on the benches, ropes and wall bars. Mrs Stephens led a superb Forest School session on Thursday where we got to investigate frogspawn, tadpoles and newts! We had a close-up look at a newt and got to see its gills! We also had a chance to do some bird spotting and have made good progress with remembering the names of the different birds. Well done to our amazing team of little learners who, as always, have put in so much effort into all they do. Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Thank you to all parents who submitted a club request form. Clubs have been allocated and texts sent out to tell you which club your child has a place for. Days and dates are below:

Photography - Monday, 6 sessions 15th, 22nd, 29th April 13th, 20th May & 10th June

Gymnastics - Tuesday, 10 sessions from 16th April

Tennis - Tuesday, 10 sessions from 16th April

Football - Wednesday 10 sessions from 17th April

Street Dance - Thursday 10 sessions from 18th

Multiskills - Thursday 10 sessions from 18th April

Athletics - Friday 5 sessions from 19th April & last session is 17th May

Please can I remind you there is one place allocated per child. It is not possible this time to buy an extra place for an additional club.

Purple Learning

As part of our focus this term ‘I can celebrate others’ our fantastic Year 1s created and performed celebrations in assembly last week –a massive well done to them! We certainly had lots of laughter and positivity as Green and Blue showed us the celebrations and then we all had a go together.

Lunchtimes

We just want to give a massive shout-out to our absolutely amazing lunchtime team. They are such a fantastic group and are always putting the children first, introducing new games, supporting them in play and giving anyone TLC who may need a little boost at lunchtimes. Thank you team. 😊

School Council

Our School Council are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new football table, football table cover and brand new footballs. We are excited to share in assembly as soon as it is delivered to the office. 😊

Class group photographs

Class group photographs will be taken on Monday. Children to wear their school uniform please.

For Pre-School children who do not attend on a Monday session please see the information on tapestry for the time when you can bring your child to school to have their photo taken.

Children arriving late into School in the mornings.

We have noticed an increase in children arriving late into school in the morning.

Lateness not only disrupts the lesson in progress but can have an adverse effect on your child’s education. If your child misses the initial part of the lesson they often struggle to grasp the new concept being taught.

Children who arrive late for school are often upset and embarrassed by joining a lesson in progress and find it difficult to contribute.

Children should arrive at 8.45am for starting their learning at 8.50am. We will be monitoring and contacting parents if we have a concern.
