Friday Letter -9th June 2023

Dear Parents,

We hope that you all had a super half-term break - we were certainly blessed with the weather. The children and staff are back in the swing of school life and what a busy final term we have ahead of us.

It was lovely to see so many new parents to school this week for our New Intake evening. We can't wait to welcome everyone to our Benhall family in September. Pre-School joined us for their first celebration assembly and we couldn't be prouder of them. Well done to Aiden and Theo who are our first Pre-School Purple Learners of the year.

Please can I remind everyone that we are outside in all weathers and the lovely weather looks set to continue over the next few weeks. All children need to have a named water bottle and a sun hat in school every day please. Please apply suncream before school.

Congratulations to our fabulous tennis players.

This morning some of our year 2 children have competed in the tennis tournament. Well done to everyone who took part. Miss Everett and Mrs Smurthwaite said they were a credit to our school.

Thank you to Miss Everett and Mrs Smurthwaite for organising this opportunity and to all the parents who supported the event by offering lifts and cheering on from the sidelines.

Indigio Team, Henry, Heather, Amelie and Leo came first.

Violet Team, Annabelle, Becca, Charlie B and Freddie came third.

A special mention to Ollie and Lyra who trained with the team but unfortunately couldn't take part in the tournament today.

An excellent result!

Whole School Trip

We will be going on our whole school trip to Beechenhurst on 19^th July 2023.

Permission forms and payments (£4 per child) can be made via Parentpay.

Pre School News

We hope you all had a pleasant half term, we have started a theme of being ‘Mini Mathematicians.’ Within our provision the children have been number hunting, then identifying what numbers they have found, In our groups we have talked about and explored where we see numbers in the environment, such as clocks, signs, our house number etc. We have looked at how much we have grown and updated our height chart, used the small world figures to count out how many people are in our family. The children have recognised numbers and quantities making marks to represent this. We have enjoyed the weather with lots of outdoor play. Our Little Wandle letter sound this week has been ‘v.’ In Pre-School this week we have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mabel and Maria. Next week on Thursday 15^th We are hosting a Father’s Day Breakfast for the Daddies 8.45 till 10am, we hope you join us and come along with your child.

Year Group In Focus - Year 1

Evil Pea has struck! On Tuesday, Year 1 were shocked to discover that our snack had been stolen! All the evidence pointed to one obvious, menacing culprit...Evil Pea! We got on the case straight away; writing Wanted posters and designing traps and security systems! We have also been learning about a real-life superhero from the past, Grace Darling. We all agreed that she was a true Purple Learner, embracing the challenge of the stormy seas to save others! In other news, the lovely Mrs Stirling has been helping our little chefs practise their food-handling skills, starting with a bit of courgette-grating! What a super week!

Just a little reminder that our next Year 1 Parent Event is quickly approaching. Next Friday, from 9-10am, you are invited to join us on the playground where we will be using our PlayPod equipment to complete a construction challenge! We know that this is an extremely busy term, so please do not feel obliged to attend, although we would love to see as many of you as possible! Have a fabulous weekend!

Volunteers Needed!

Our summer fair is on 1st July 2023. We really can't run a fair without the lovely help of parents, teachers and friends. If you can spare an hour on the day we'd be so grateful. Any budding BBQ chefs, stallholders or face painters please get in touch.

Purple Learning Focus

Purple Learning is at the heart of Benhall and fits so perfectly at this time of year when transitions and changes begin. When having conversations with your child about transitions it might be useful to use purple learner language such as ‘new challenges’, ‘putting in effort to all we do’, ‘embracing challenges’ Please see below the school focus for each week:

School Council

School Council have a busy term ahead, they will be meeting with Miss Bilton in week 2 to discuss the jobs they will be completing over the final school term. Our litter pick will also be scheduled this term and we are going to be inviting respectful class role models to join us.
