Friday Letter - 23rd February 2024

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful first week back. We have been super busy getting to grips with our new learning. Coincidently, all the classes are focusing on Geography this term. Reception are focusing on their local area and enjoyed a local area walk. Year 1 are thinking about where food originates from and focusing on the names and location of the World's oceans and continents. Year 2 are researching how animals adapt in the World's oceans.

Thank you to all the parents who joined reception on their local area walk on Tuesday and for all the positive feedback that we have received.

Literature Week - 4th to 8th March 2024

As you know our reading lead, Mrs Pain, has been collaborating with Mrs Whale, St Marks Reading lead, to organise a week of activities that will spark a love of books and reading across both schools. The week coincides with World Book Day, which falls on the Thursday.

This afternoon, both schools sent out a sponsor form for our readathon.

Read for Good’s Readathon is a sponsored read in which pupils choose exactly what they want to read in their spare time and ask friends and families to sponsor them to see how much they can read over two weeks. It is a great way to help motivate and encourage the children to discover the joy of reading. Read for Good is the charity we support. Any money raised will go to help seriously ill children in hospital, as well as raising money to buy the books for the year group book lists.

Pre-School News

This week in Pre-School we continued with our story the Smartest Giant in Town, we have been remembering the story using sequencing pictures. We have created story maps, identified characters in the story and also had a go at independently drawing a favourite animal from the story. The children have role played dressing up and acting out the story, we have also enjoyed small group sessions of cosmic yoga. Our Little Wandle Letter Sounds have been ‘l’ and ‘j.’ In Silver family we have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Noah. Next week our learning focus is ‘music.’ On Friday afternoon we enjoyed the Pre-School disco, thank you to the PTA who organised this lovely event for the children. Have a pleasant weekend. Year Group in Focus - Reception

Reception have come back to school after half term ready, ready, ready! This term we are learning about our local area and will be comparing it to life by the sea. We were very lucky on Tuesday to have the perfect weather to head out for a walk around Benhall with our families, spotting features and talking about where we live. We had time for a quick snack and play in the park before heading into the woods for some sculpture work. The children worked in pairs using clay to sculpt 'Friendly Faces' on the trees and my goodness, they were absolutely fabulous. Every one was so unique, just like us and it was wonderful to see the children walking around, spotting each others sculptures and talking about them with such respect and kindness. Thank you to everyone who was able to come along and make it such a special morning. The children were so well behaved and it was such a treat to take them out and about to explore. Thank goodness we went on Tuesday when it was a lovely dry day!

Lunchtimes

We are chomping at the bit to get outside and onto our school field, we are hoping it will be dry enough soon to have it open and we plan to talk about the boundaries of the field. We will give lots of reminders in our assemblies. We would like to welcome Mr Newman to our lunchtime team who will be working every day inside and outside supporting our lovely children in their play!

School Council

Our fabulous School Council will continue to meet weekly on Wednesday or Thursday. We are very excited to be having cake and squash next week at our meeting.

Children arriving late into School in the mornings.

We have noticed an increase in children arriving late into school in the morning.

Lateness not only disrupts the lesson in progress but can have an adverse effect on your child’s education. If your child misses the initial part of the lesson they often struggle to grasp the new concept being taught.

Children who arrive late for school are often upset and embarrassed by joining a lesson in progress and find it difficult to contribute.

Children should arrive at 8.45am for starting their learning at 8.50am. We will be monitoring and contacting parents if we have a concern.
