Welcome back - I hope you all had a wonderful half term break!
We have made a great start to Term 2 continuing with our 'Turrets and Tales' theme.
To start the week we heard all about what everybody had been up to during the half term and the children then did a piece of independent writing about their break.
Our English focus this week has been non-fiction writing. The children have explored various non-fiction texts to research castles and have had a go at recording what they have found out by putting it into their own sentences. At the end of the week the children will be writing booklets all about what they know so far.
Our Maths focus has been subtraction. We have been using a number of strategies such as counting in our heads, number lines, 100 squares and counting objects to help us find the answer to subtraction questions.
We have been developing our skills in Geography this week by learning about the United Kingdom. The children have located the UK on a globe, learnt the four countries of the UK and have had a go at locating them all on a map. We have also discussed the capital cities of each country. As part of our discussion we also talked about us living in Cheltenham which is part of the county of Gloucestershire.
Next week we will be:
*Reading and writing instructions
*Naming and describing the properties of 2D shapes, looking at patterns involving shapes and investigating lines of symmetry
*Designing, making and evaluating a jester hat
