This week we have continued with our topic of ‘Space’, with the children wowing us all with what they already know!
We have been learning about the planets, discussing the order of them and their properties. We have been singing lots of songs to help us. There are some Solar System pictures on our learning wall – take a look!
In Maths this week we have been focusing on finding 1 more/1 less and 10 more/10 less than any given number when using a 100 square. We have learnt that to add 10 you just need to jump up and to subtract 10 you jump down to find the number – much quicker than counting 10 steps! We had a selection of ‘dancing’ aliens with numbers on that the children used to pick a number and found 1/10 more/less using a 100 square, writing their calculations on their own slimy green aliens!
To develop our descriptive writing, we have been designing our own aliens and using adjectives to describe them. We extended this by putting our adjectives into sentences and describing what personalities the aliens had. Some brilliant ideas!
In art this week we have been looking at the work of Peter Thorpe. He created an abstract background and then added a space feature to the foreground. So, of course we had to have a go at creating our own! We used bright colours to create an abstract background, painted a space feature and combined the two. The ones that have been completed so far are looking fab!
Next week in Green Class:
*2D and 3D shape
*Exploring what life would be like on the moon
*Exploring place value
