Achieve, Believe, Care and Dream

Week 4

This week Green Class have been impressing us all with their AMAZING attitude to writing! We usually start on a Monday with writing a recount about their weekend. However this week, we decided to mix it up and write our own versions of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’, switching the setting to the rainforest. Unfortunately, one session just wasn’t enough time and the children begged for more time to finish their stories as well as writing about their weekend! So, most of us now have a finished story – we hope you are as impressed as we are!

On top of their story writing, the children have begun writing fact files about different rainforest animals – they had the choice to write about a real animal or one they had created. They included different facts such as their habitat, diet and any interesting facts.

In Maths this week we have been working on knowledge of addition and subtraction facts to 20. The children have been working on instant recall of number bonds to 10 and 20, and using these to work out subtraction facts. They have made number bond flowers to decorate the classroom as well as challenging themselves to solve missing number problems.

We had our Digiwall visit on Wednesday –VERY exciting stuff! The children had a great time showing off their climbing skills. A great time had by all.

We continue with Zippy’s friends where the children have been discussing their feelings and how to deal with them appropriately. This week the focus was on feeling angry/annoyed and the best way to deal with this. They came up with some brilliant ideas.

The children have finished off their Rousseau paintings to add to our art gallery above the cloakroom. We have extended their learning of artists to look at the work of Georges Seurat. Both painters used intricate skills (painting one leaf at a time / painting with dots) and we are exploring both ways to see which we prefer.

If there are any volunteers that would like to come in and listen to children read, please let us know! Extra pairs of hands are always appreciated J
