Green Class have had another busy week exploring different countries and continents on their flying carpet! The children learnt more about what life is like in India and compared it to life in England. The flying carpet then took them on a journey to Australia to see what similarities and differences they could find between the two places. The children have also been exploring a variety of non-fiction books about different countries to see what information they could find. Some of them have even written books about it! Of course, there has also been lots of story writing going on with some of the children writing their own flying carpet stories.
As the children have been learning about different places around the world, it fed easily into looking at continent maps. The children have been exploring globes, maps and atlases as well as an easy to learn song! Following this some of the children have made their own map to show the seven continents of the world. Yesterday there was an extra special treat too as a group of Green Class children made up their own continent song using facts and different instruments, made a stage and seating for an audience and performed it to the rest of Year One! It was just brilliant.
In DT the children have been exploring pictures with moving parts. They looked at a variety of ways to join materials together and how to make them move and used these ideas to create their own animals.
The challenge this week has been Science! The children have had access to a range of materials that they have described and sorted according to different properties. This was then extended to the children creating their own Venn diagrams – either on paper or on the LearnPads.
Next week in Green Class:
*Easter/Spring craft making
*Spring poetry (acrostic poems, introcuding rhyming poetry)
*Place value (looking at the value of tens and ones and how to partition numbers)
