The first time I visited Benhall Infant and Pre-School was on the day of my interview for the role of its new headteacher. As you can imagine applying for this position in the middle of a pandemic had made it difficult to visit with the school ahead of the interview and I was feeling very nervous about what lay beyond the foyer doors.
I soon realised that I did not need to worry because the school captured my heart that day in the same way it has done for so many visitors before and after me. You will be greeted warmly by our office staff and once you are signed in and begin your tour of the school you will immediately feel at home as everyone you meet will give you a smile, a wave or stop to have a chat.
All of our classes are unique while have a consistency that promotes independent learning. The children feel secure in these familiar environments as they move through the school, allowing them to take risks in their learning safe in the knowledge that 'mistakes are marvellous' and that everyone in the Benhall team is here to help!
Visitors are frequently surprised by the lack of desks, but a desk isn't crucial to learning and in some cases can become a barrier! In place of the desks you will find 'invitations to learn' set up in areas around the classroom. The teaching staff set these invitations based on their curriculum planning while following the children's interests. This style of teaching allows the children to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a variety of ways, making real connections between curriculum subjects and prior learning.
If you would like to find out more, come and visit us - our children will be happy to show you around.
