Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Benhall Infant and Pre-School we believe that for every child to achieve their best, they have to be fit and well (both physically and emotionally). We recognise that life can be difficult for children, at times, and we are here to work with every child, and their family to ensure support is put in place to help with whatever is causing them upset.
As a school, each member of staff is committed to the mental health and well-being of every pupil. We have created nurturing, loving environment where children feel they can talk to all staff members regarding any problems they may be facing.
The emotional and physical well-being of our children in is met in a variety of ways.
- A warm welcome into school every morning
- School Dog - a cuddle with Nigel is enough to make anyone feel calmer and happier
- Special time to foster strong bonds between the children and the staff
- Story Massage
- Yoga and Relaxation
- First Aid Classes
- Healthy eating workshops
- Sports interventions
- Forest School
- 3 School Rules - Ready, Respectful, Safe
We also access support from Move More's Family Engagement Officer, Marijana Filipovic-Carter. Marijana comes in to school to host our Welcome Wednesday Coffee Mornings for parents. These drop in sessions are very informal and friendly. The aim is to get to know each other, support each other and talk about a variety of topics covering anything from general parenting issues and struggles, healthy/fussy eating, becoming and staying active to your own or your child's mental wellbeing. We are also hoping to have some members of staff present at some of these meetings so that you can meet them, ask any questions, give feedback...
If you feel that you, or your child, is suffering at the moment (no matter how small you think the issue is) then please do not hesitate to email the Headteacher (who is also the Mental Health First Aid trained member of staff) on head@benhall.gloucs.sch.uk to discuss this, so we can support you through this time.
