Pupil Premium
Families circumstances may have changed over time and this could mean that your child becomes eligible at any point during the school year. We are asking that ALL parents spend 10 minutes filling in the form on the below link. You may not currently qualify for a Pupil Premium Grant which will go to support you and your child(ren) while they are at Benhall Infant School but If you apply and your circumstances change in the future, this should automatically be granted without you having to reapply.
It really does only take 10 minutes and all you need is your National Insurance Number.
What is Pupil Premium?
The government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant in April 2011. The indicators of need are pupils who are entitled to free school meals (FSM), looked after children (LAC), previously looked after children (PLAC) and the children of parents in the armed forces. The grant is a fixed amount of money for schools per eligible pupil.
How is the money allocated?
- Pupils in year groups Reception to Year 6 recorded as Ever 6 free school meals are allocated £1,515
- Looked-after children (LAC) defined in the Children Act 1989 as one who is in the care of, or provided with accommodation by, an English local authority are allocated £2,630
- Children who have ceased to be looked after by a local authority in England and Wales because of adoption, a special guardianship order, a child arrangements order or a residence order are allocated £2,630
- Service children - Pupils in year groups Reception to Year 11 recorded as Ever 6 service child or in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence are allocated £350
Who has responsibility for how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent?
The school has overall responsibility in how the grant is spent. They must ensure that the spending is visible through the budget and accounting systems used by the school.
The Pupil Premium Coordinator is the appointed member of staff who becomes the custodian of The Pupil Grant to ensure that the spending impacts the children in receipt of the grant. Schools must report on how much money the school received, how it was spent and the impact the spending had.

What will the school use the Pupil Premium Grant for?
The specifics on how we spend the money is dependent on the individual needs of the child. Our desired outcomes are:
· To ensure a culture of high expectation of progress and achievement for every child based on secure knowledge and assessment, rather than assumption.
· To inspire all our young children to become lifelong ‘Purple’ learners, understanding that social, economic and educational disadvantage should not be an anchor and determiner for future success and achievement.
· To maximise access to our aspirational rich broad and balanced curriculum, improve self-esteem and resilience, and reduce barriers for those vulnerable to underachievement.
How will the school know what impact the Pupil Premium Grant has?
The school will continue to monitor the personal development and academic progress of all pupils to ensure improved attainment for all. For pupils in receipt of the Pupil Premium grant, robust monitoring and tracking will ensure that:
- Pupils make progress in the targeted area/subject.
- Pupils are attending school, settle well and participate in all lessons.
- Pupils are working at a good level of development/national expectation.
- Pupils demonstrate enhanced levels of involvement and well-being.
- Pupils attend all school trips and enrichment activities.
- Pupils access timely intervention and support to ensure any gaps in progress and attainment are closed at the earliest opportunity.
In previous years pupils in receipt of the pupil premium grant achieved the following outcomes as a result of the pupil premium spending outlined above.
- Pupils made expected or better progress in Phonics, Reading, Writing and Maths based on their starting points.
- Attendance and punctuality improved for identified pupils.
- Pupils developed their 'cultural capital' by accessing identified school enrichment activity/ies.
- Pupils accessed all trips and class based enrichment activities across the year.
- Pupils' attendance increased.
